
The Ghana Police Service has issued an official statement regarding the shooting incident which happened today June 21st Kwabenya involving former Gender Minister, Adwoa Safo.
Eyewitness account revealed that the alleged bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena purportedly discharged firearms during an event which was held to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the new leader of the Kristo Asafo Movement.
However, a statement from the police indicate that a ceremony was being organised at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat alias Akofena. Adwoa Safo requested she be allowed to enter but the request fell on deaf ears.
The police further noted that the armed security personnel at the scene who were supposedly the bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena gave warning shots which one of the bullets unfortunately scratched the neck of Hon. Adwoa Safo causing minor injuries.
“Police investigations further revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident resulting in the injury to Hon. Adwoa Safo. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks”, part of the statement read.
The statement emphasized that officials from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate were engaged in a specialized operation when they got a distress call from a resident in Kwabenya prompting them to investigate the incident.
Following a visit to the scene and subsequent search, five pump-action firearms were recovered, along with a Taurus pistol containing seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an extra magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication devices.
All six suspects together with the firearms have been sent to the Police Headquarters to aid in the investigation. The statement also assured that all persons who may have played a role in the incident will be arrested and made to face the law.
