Otumfuo called on the leaders to start readying their supporters for a future free from violence, emphasizing that the peace in Bawku relies on a united dedication to living together harmoniously.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called on the opposing factions engaged in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute to commit to lasting peace, emphasizing that they remain “one people” and must coexist irrespective of the mediation outcome. He told them to live in peace and put their differences aside

This appeal was made on Monday, December 1, 2025, when the Asantehene convened delegates of the Mamprugu and Kusasi parties for a rare in-person meeting in the Manhyia Palace Jubilee Hall in Kumasi.

This comes after months of individual discussions focused on addressing the enduring conflict.

The meeting took place in a remarkably friendly environment, with both delegations recognizing that there is no valid reason for conflict between them.

The Asantehene commended their behavior, highlighting their civility and maturity as a promising indication for the peace process.

Otumfuo called on the leaders to start readying their supporters for a future free from violence, emphasizing that the peace in Bawku relies on a united dedication to living together harmoniously.

“I am very optimistic that regardless of the outcome of the mediation you are going to live as brothers and sisters because there’s no need for fighting one another,” he emphasized.

Otumfuo is set to provide President John Dramani Mahama with a detailed briefing on the results of the mediation process, along with a clear outline of essential recommendations aimed at achieving enduring peace between the two groups.

The president is expected to respond to the recommendations provided by the Asante Monarch, following which a wider consultative meeting involving stakeholders is anticipated.
