Unlike previous years where candidates who are to sit for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) select their preferred schools before they write their papers, a new development now allows candidates to select their schools after the release of their results.
According to the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who made the assertion, he noted that the policy forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and promote fairness while ensuring students make right choices.
He stated while addressing the media that students will be given a one-week period to select schools of their choice after the results have been released.
“Previously, students chose schools without awareness of their overall performance, which impacted the placement system. “This time, we will implement a compulsory one-week period following the announcement of results for students to validate their selections based on their performance,” he indicated.
The Minister conveyed optimism that the innovative strategy will promote fairness, alleviate placement difficulties, and boost overall efficiency in the Senior High School admission process.
