Government Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that the Deputy Chairperson for the Electoral Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare, will step aside on July 31st after formally informing the President of his intention.
The minister informed the media that Dr. Asare had plans of returning to the academic field.
“Concerning Dr. Bossman Asare, I can boldly posit that he has written a letter to His Excellency the President stating that, effective 31st July 2026, he will resign from his role as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission,” he stated.
“He provides an explanation for his resignation, stating that he wishes to return to academia and continue his career as a staff member at the University of Ghana,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu noted.
He further revealed that Samuel Tettey, another Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, had retired, which has led to efforts to find a replacement.
“In that context, processes are currently in progress.” Indeed, the Council of State has received a nominee that they are currently evaluating, and once that process is finalized, an announcement regarding a replacement for Mr. Tettey will be made,” he explained.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, Dr. Bossman Asare would be succeeded by someone else when he leaves.
“And then, of course, Dr. Bossman Asare’s replacement will be found,” he said.
