Two nannies are in the grip of the Airport Divisional Police Command for allegedly abusing 2-year-old twins at East Legon in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Police, Francisca Boakye, a 30-year-old student nurse from Konogo in the Ashanti Region, and Harriet Ansah, 31, also from Jasikan have been abusing the kids physically and emotionally.
It came to light during police investigation that the two suspects drug the kids they are taking care of.
Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command said that the suspects confessed to their offenses and disclosed alarming details, including the burning of the kids’ hands and the use of disparaging terms like ‘chimpanzees’ to refer to them.
She noted that the revelations came out after the mother of the kids started noticing some behavioural changes in the kids in September.
A search conducted by the police uncovered trays of sachet-pack substances speculated to be ‘Dynewell,’ which is believed to have been utilized in their modus operandi.
The two have been cautioned, charged and remanded by the court to reappear on October 20.
