The former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been arrested by personnel believed to be operativesrom f the National Security.

According to a reliable source, Kofi Jumah was picked at his Kumasi residence on Sunday June 29th.

His arrest has come as a surprise to many with some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) describing the move as politically motivated.

According to the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP who confirmed his arrest, the operatives arrived at Jumah’s residence and requested to have a word with him (Kofi Jumah).

He further narrated how the national security agents showed him what they said was an arrest warrant on a phone and then demanded his arrest without letting him change into a different outfit.

Kofi Jumah was whisked away in a pick up car to the Ashanti Regional Police Command. Yandoh disclosed in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio that he is currently in custody, awaiting further action.

Remarkably, there had ben no formal charge and neither the police nor any national security agency have admitted their involvement in the operation.

Three astute lawyers have volunteered to assist, however the rationale for his detention remains unclear.

Yandoh characterized the incident profoundly concerning, cautioning that it may be interpreted by msny as an abuse of office under the Mahama-led administration.

“This does not represent the democracy we are building. The President seems to be employing state institutions to stifle the opposition,” he stated.
