National Security operatives stormed the residence of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited, in an effort to reclaim a state-owned vehicle acquired during his tenure.
On May 15, 2025, at around five in the morning, operatives from the National Security apparatus invaded Mr. Jumah’s home. Mr. Jumah was not around at the time of the operation.
Mr Jumah has recently been in the news for allegedly collapsing the state-owned enterprise by increasing staff numbers, taking huge allowances and selling the company’s properties without approval from the Board.
Mr Jumah, according to a letter dated 1st August, 2019 had the approval of the Board of Directors to purchase a Genesis G90 saloon car registration number, GE 86 22-19. This forms part of his conditions of service.
However, according a letter signed by the company’s Secretary and Head of Administration, Apea Twumasi-Ankrah,the vehicle which was valued at $100,000 was sold to him at Ghs4,943, which is just 5% of its worth.
Further technical assessment of the engine, brakes, transmission, suspension, steering and electrical systems reveals that the 2018 model vehicle with chassis number KMHG34JXJU039991 was in good standing and had no prior fault.
An independent valuation done by State Transport Corporation priced the car’s value at Ghs 98,862.00.
Mr. Jumah, who is also under investigation for retaining two additional state-owned vehicles without approval from the Board, has directed security personnel to return the cars. As of the time of filing this report, it has been confirmed that one of car’s has successfully been retrieved and sent to Accra.
