The Ghana Armed Forces Chiefs have donated their full month’s salary in support of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund which is widely known as Mahama Cares.

The donation forms part of their personal willingness to contribute their quota to national development and also support the vulnerable battling with chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, stroke, and other life-threatening ailments.

Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General William Agyapong who led the Service Commanders in presenting their donation to the President on May 16, stressed the need to sustain the fund inorder to provide medical relief to Ghanaians who are saddles with chronic illnesses but do not have the means to seek medical care.

“We are intrigued, and it is heartwarming to know that persons with conditions such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, stroke, among many others, will equally benefit from this fund.”

Your Excellency, that is why my military command and I have decided to contribute our one-month basic salary to the fund,” he noted.

President John Dramamni Mahama who received the donation, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Armed Forces and described the kind gesture as a deep sense of patriotism.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank our high command for this initiative.

It shows that aside from your primary responsibility of protecting our territorial boundaries and wielding weapons, you have a heart and soul beating in your chest”.

You have love for the country and love for the people you are protecting. On behalf of the people of Ghana, I thank you for this,” Mahama said.

The Mahama Care initiative championed by President Mahama was launched as part of efforts to provide essential health care delivery to every Ghanaian and ensure that no one is abandoned due to financial constraints.
