
Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti , a nurse at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra has been honored at the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2025, recognizing her exemplary contributions to the healthcare field and in addition she won a whopping $250,000 cash prize.
Mrs. Oti was picked following her submission, which was among over 100,000 nominations filed from 199 countries. She was included in the final list and emerged victorious among the 10 individuals selected.
Mrs. Oti’s victory, with finalist Catherine Maree Holliday from Switzerland and Edith Namba from Papua New Guinea, signifies that Africa is progressively establishing a commendable standard in its healthcare systems.
She received the award at a ceremony held in Dubai on May 26th, 2025.
Aster Guardians Global Award
The award program aims to establish a platform for the recognition of outstanding nurses globally who have significantly influenced the healthcare sector and made an impact and shown commitment in their line of duty.
For her contributions to cancer care across Africa, Mrs. Oti, the head of nursing at Ghana’s National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, was recognized for her efforts.
It was launched by Aster DM Healthcare in 2022 to celebrate heroic deeds of nurses globally and to provide a platform where stakeholders can connect and establish links across continents.
Career As A Nurse
Naomi Oye Ohene Oti has been in active service as a nurse for the past 23 years and has contributed significantly to the oncology Nursing field in Ghana. She has greatly impacted the nursing fraternity especially the oncology Nursing and notable amongst her success story include;
1.Mentored over 60 oncology nurse specialists and 10 breast cancer nurses
2. Launched the first postgraduate cancer nursing curriculum for the nation in 2015.
3. Contributed to the capacity development of cancer nurse specialists across the nation
Achievements
Mrs. Oti has to her name several awards which include the Ministry of Health’s Excellence Award and the Dr Dorcia Kisseh International Award.
