A lot of Ghanaians have expressed their thoughts following Abdul Baba Rahman’s return to the Senior National Team, the Black Stars after a long break.

While some welcome the idea of the elite player joining the team noting that his experience over the years and his recent performance can be helpful, others believed the PAOK FC left-back has outlived his name and should step aside.

Rahman, whose last appearance for the Black Stars was in September 2023, is making his long-awaited comeback to the national squad.

In an interview on Asempa FM, GFA’s Communication Director Asante Twum said that coach Carlos Queiroz was the driving force for Rahman’s return to Black Stars, citing the team’s “technical outlook.”

Speaking on Asempa FM, he said that it was a challenging task for previous coaches like Otto Addo and Chris Hughton to attract the defender to the team, but Carlos Queiroz has successfully persuaded the player to come on board.

“Baba Rahman’s return is a decision rooted in technical considerations. While Chris Hughton and Otto Addo faced challenges in their attempts, Carlos Queiroz has successfully turned the tide”, he said.

With a wealth of experience, the 31-year-old has proudly represented Ghana in 52 matches since his debut in 2014, contributing two goals to the Black Stars’ legacy.

His comeback is very significant, since Ghana is ramping up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Asante Twum also noted that the 28 man squad announced to face Wales in the upcoming friendlies will play a major role in the final list that will feature at the tournament.

“The 28 players selected for the Black Stars represent the definitive roster for the World Cup. Twenty-six of them will be selected based on the evaluation conducted by the head coach Carlos Queiroz,” he remarked.
