
An Immigration Officer stationed at the Gbintri Checkpoint in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region has been killed while his other colleague has sustained severe injuries after an armed attack by unknown assailants.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday October 3 where the unknown gunmen opened fire on the unsuspecting officers.
Rafiq Mohammed who was an Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICOII) died on the spot.
Also, Opponent Daniel, a colleague and also an AICOOII was severely injured in the jaw and back and is receiving medical attention at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
The police retrieved AK-47 shell casings alongside a GIS service rifle identified by the registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646 at the scene.
A response team, under the leadership of Superintendent Francis Brobbey, Gambaga Municipal Police Commander, along with DIS Moro Tanko Mohammed, North Regional Intelligence Officer of the GIS, was sent to the scene.
Investigations have been initiated by authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and to identify the individuals responsible.
