
A final-year student and acting Boys’ Prefect of Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi image met his untimely death after falling from the top level of the school’s administrative building.
The incident according to reports happened on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
The student has been identified as Abass, a form three business student. The unfortunate incident is believed to have taken place while classes were in session.
Students and staff were alerted and hurried to the exact location after hearing loud screams coming from the administration block.
Abass, who was also the acting Boys’ Prefect, was sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital right away for treatment, but upon arrival, they declared him dead.
Abass had previously exhibited signs of anxiety and was reported to have contemplated ending his life; however, the school remained oblivious to emotional distress he was experiencing.
His mother and uncle, among other family members, attested to Abass’s prior statements that he could hurt himself.
They claim that they did not take the remarks as evidence of serious intent because they thought he was not serious about it . These reports were also supported by a few students who recounted some remarks he made while they were in their dormitory and even classroom.
The authorities at the school noted that they have drawn the attention of Ghana Education Service’s Ashanti Regional Directorate to the recent incident.
The GES has however not yet released a formal statement on the incident.
The body of the deceased has been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs.
Students and the general public are being urged by authorities and family members to take mental health issues seriously and to seek immediate assistance when they find themselves in such situations.
