Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been included in INTERPOL’s Red Notice database subsequent to a request from the Office of the Special Prosecutor for his extradition to Ghana for interrogation for his involvement in multiple linked criminal charges.
The Special Prosecutor invited Ken Ofori-Atta, but he did not show up. He defied the June 2 deadline to appear before the Office.
His absence was attributed to bad health, a justification the OSP has refused to accept, given his office was not informed of this recent development by the former minister’s legal team and only learned of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s illness from the media.
The Co-founder of DataBank has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, per hospital documents, and is due for surgery.
Despite Mr. Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual meeting, the OSP insists that he respond to inquiries in person rather than via an online platform.
The INTERPOL Red Notice states that he exploited his position as a public official for personal benefit and is sought by Ghana.
