President John Dramani Mahama has ordered for a full forensic audit into the expenditures of the 13th All-African Games which took place at University of Ghana Stadium, Borteyman Sports Complex, and Accra Sports Stadium from March 8th to 23rd, 2024.
President Mahama’s directive follows a corroborative report by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) citing instances of outrageous expenses. This initiative is also part of the government’s continuous efforts at recovering funds lost due to substandard contracts.
The audit which will be spearheaded by the Auditor General will encompass a comprehensive assessment of all financial and operational dimensions of the Games.
And this includes procurement, expenditure, infrastructure, resource utilisation, and supervision.
The audit will focus on the evaluation of the tendering and selection processes for contractors and suppliers to verify adherence to the Public Procurement Act.
It will also assess the management of funds and expenditures, including sponsorships, while analyzing the timelines, costs, and value-for-money outcomes related to the facilities constructed for the Games.
The Auditor-General has up to the second week of December to submit the findings to the Presidency.
