What appeared to be a lost contest turned out to be a won battle as the lads from the Westside secured victory in the 2024 edition of the coveted National Science and Maths Quiz.

St. Augustine’s College were dominating from the onset of the contest and it was obvious the trophy would stay in Cape Coast.

The BOTWE Boys made a surprise comeback in the final and fifth round of the competition when they answered the penultimate riddle question to gain a point advantage over St. Augustine’s College.

At the end of the contest, Mfantsipim had 47 points while St. Augustine’s College got 46 points with Keta SHTS securing 32 points.

Mfantsipim School won the trophy at the contest with over 70,000ghc worth of cash and the Bragging Rights. St. Augustine’s College with a second place position took home GH¢50,000 cash and other goodies with Keta SHTS making away with GH¢35,000 in cash and other goodies as they placed third in the competition.

The first round ended with Keta Senior High Technical School getting 13 points while AUGUSCO had 24 points.

The second round came to an end with Keta SHTS wallowing in 12 points while Mfantsipim had 31 points with St Augustine’s having 34 points.

Round 3 saw Mfantsipim school with 34, AUGUSCO with 39 and Keta getting 16 points.

At the end of round 4, Mfantsipim followed St. Augustine’s keenly with 44 points while Keta had 26 points.

The fifth round secured victory for the BOTWE boys when they properly answered one riddle, earning three points in the final round of the contest.

BOTWE secured their inaugural NSMQ trophy in 1999 and their subsequent trophy in 2014. The school secured second place in two competitions, specifically in 2000 and 2016. Mfantsipim School has participated in five finals since the inception of the NSMQ.

St. Augustine’s has won the competition twice, in 2007 and 2019, and were highly hopeful to secure a third victory.

Keta SHTS is a two-time finalist in the NSMQ. They were in the semi-finals in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023 but luck has not been on their side in their quest for the coveted trophy.
