Gospel musician, Mabel Okyere, had described the first term of President John Dramani Mahama as a painful experience that consistently brings back sad memories.

According to Akua Afriyie, the power outages were out of hand and which sometimes makes it difficult for her to record her songs.

She made this disclosure during an interview on TV XYZ on Saturday 10th June, 2025 where she made mention of the fact it got to a point in her music career she wanted to give up due to the intermittent power supply which took a heavy toll on musicians, businesses and other sectors that solely relied on electricity to function.

The gospel singer mentioned that her second album, titled ‘Me Wɔ Jesus,’ was almost ready for release at the time but, the constant power outages nearly made her give up since there was no light to record her songs making life unbearable for her.

“I nearly gave up because the dumsor was too much and it affected me personally as an upcoming gospel artist at that time”, she said.

Miss Okyere emphasized that due to her circumstances, she had to take a break from music for a while to calm down, and after 5 years of being off the music scene, she returned with ‘ɛha yɛ kwan ho’ which became an instant hit, attributing it to God’s unflinching love and grace which has sustained her through all these challenging times.

According to Mabel Okyere, her latest song ‘So Far So Good’ illustrates the extent of her journey with God.

Reacting to a question by show host Agyemang Prempeh on whether gospel songs still carries the anointing it used to, she responded in the affirmative insisting that gospel songs continue to have an impact on the lives of people and that God’s power is still the driving force behind it.
