
The Eastern Regional Police Command has apprehended a woman and her son in relation to the suspected murder of of 36-year-old land agent, Nicholas Cheetham, and the attempted murder of his 15-year-old son in Nsawam-Aduakrom.
The individuals involved, identified as Abigail Cheetham, 34, and her son Prince, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Police sources indicate that the incident took place on Sundayay, March 8, 2026, at the family residence in Nsawam-Aduakrom.
Initial findings suggest that a conflict emerged following the suspect’s alleged realization that her husband had conceived a child outside their marriage. Authorities report that the situation was ultimately resolved when Nicholas sought forgiveness and provided compensation to Abigail, who requested a parcel of land along with a substantial sum of money.
Despite the settlement from the deceased, Abigail was, however, covertly strategizing the assassination of Nicholas. “On Saturday, March 7, 2026, at approximately 4pm, Nicholas entrusted GH¢30,000 to his wife for safekeeping until the following morning.
Abigail communicated her plan to Prince and provided details regarding the financial aspect. Prince contacted a friend to assist him in the act of killing his step-father. Reports indicate that Abigail paid GH¢8,000 to her friend for his involvement, using the money that Nicholas had instructed her to keep.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. that night, it is reported that Abigail engaged in sexual intercourse with Nicholas to ensure he would fall into a deep sleep. Subsequently, she is said to have summoned Prince and his companion into the bedroom, where they purportedly assassinated Nicholas.
During the incident, Nicholas’s 15-year-old son Richmond from a previous relationship, reportedly heard the noise and looked through the window, where he observed the assailants placing his father’s body into a rubber bag for disposal.
Reports indicate that as they proceeded to dispose of the body, they became aware that Richmond had witnessed their actions. Following the disposal of Nicholas’s body, they targeted Richmond, fracturing his neck and striking his head with a cement block until he lost consciousness.
Believing Richmond had also passed on, they positioned him a short distance from the compound while one of them went to retrieve a polythene bag for body disposal.
Unexpectedly, Richmond regained consciousness, fled to the neighboring house with blood streaming from his head, and recounted the entire incident.
The neighbors reportedly notified the police regarding the incident, which resulted in the arrest of Abigail and Prince.
Residents revealed that Nicholas provided support to Abigail’s eldest son during his schooling and subsequently assisted him in starting a printing press business.
