The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects sighted in a viral video physically assaulting a young girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti region of Ghana.
A statement from the police noted that the arrest was carried out by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
Following an intelligence-led operation, the team located the victim’s aunt, Grace Menash 75 years, and arrested her as the first suspect. The second suspect, Godfred Osei Akoto, who is the heavily built man seen beating the child in the widely shared video, was also picked up.
Investigations into the incident revealed that on December 6 the 11-year-old victim went out and failed to come home. The auntie, according to Osei Akoto, ordered him to discipline the victim.
The Police have confirmed that the victim has been successfully rescued and is now safe. The Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has received both suspects for further investigative assistance.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its strong dedication to safeguarding children and has assured the public of its decisive action against all forms of abuse.
