The Office of the President has dismissed media reports claiming that President Akufo-Addo had issued a presidential pardon to 11 convicted individuals.
Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency in a statement dated January 6th, 2025, emphasized that the president has not granted presidential pardon to such persons as reported earlier by the media outlets. According to him such information is inaccurate and should be disregarded.
Earlier reports suggested that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has used his constitutional power of mercy to pardon several convicts, including Ato Essien, the former CEO of the now-defunct Capital Bank and other 10 people
The list of people pardoned included, Philip Assibit, Akwasi Alhassan, Beatric Ofori, Emmanuel Adu Mensah,Stephen Nyarko, Osman Inusah, William Ato Essien and three others.
However, the Office of the President has debunked such claims. The statement explained further that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has not granted pardons to these individuals as speculated.
The public is therefore urged to disregard any any contrary information and, rely solely on official communications from Office of the President.
