President John Dramani Mahama has been honored with the title of Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source by Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, in Nigeria.
The esteemed Yoruba chieftaincy title means “A President Who Reorganizes the Global Space for Humanity.”
The ceremony held on Monday, December 15, 2025, honored Mahama’s dedication to multilateralism and leadership.
In 2015, Mahama was honored as Aare Atolase of Offa by the Offa Kingdom in Kwara State and has continued to foster strong connections with Yoruba communities.
Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye I is commended as a leader “who ensures the nobility of this Kingdom is maintained.”
Given the strong historical and cultural relationship that exists between Ghana and Nigeria, it is anticipated that the installation would further solidify diplomatic and cultural relations between the two nations.
The Ooni of Ife, esteemed as a prominent traditional leader within the Yoruba community, actively contributes to the advancement of Yoruba culture, the fostering of interfaith relations, and the enhancement of socio-economic progress throughout Nigeria and the broader African diaspora.
