Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced a price reduction from MultiChoice Africa, which will offer improved service packages to DStv subscribers in Ghana without any additional charges.
“You get 22 more channels and actually get access to live football matches. So anybody on the family package, which previously didn’t get live football matches, would automatically get live football matches. The value savings on this is 50%,” he said.
MultiChoice Africa has pledged an “unprecedented increased value offer” tailored for the Ghanaian market, subsequent to weeks of regulatory scrutiny and discussions regarding DStv pricing within the nation.
“If you’re on the family package, which is currently valued at 190 Ghana cedis, DStv will automatically bump you up to Compact, which ordinarily goes for 380 Ghana cedis,” Sam George explained.
The latest offer allows subscribers on the Family bouquet to access premium content, including live sports, which was previously exclusive to subscribers on premium packages.
The committee, formed by the National Communications Authority (NCA) at the Minister’s instruction, commenced operations on September 8, 2025.
Its task was to assess the equity and market feasibility of DStv subscription rates, while also addressing public outrage in regards to its affordability.
The discussions between the government and MultiChoice Ghana have been characterized by tension, as the Minister has consistently threatened regulatory measures if price reductions are not enacted.
Conversely, MultiChoice has opposed the initiative, citing operational and commercial difficulties.
This new value proposition seems to be alleviating the impasse, facilitating a more cooperative relationship between the government and the satellite television provider.
