
Senegal has won their second African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) Title after a thrilling performance at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat after Pape Gueye scored the winning goal.
Senegal won their first Title in 2021.
The match reached a halt as the referee made a pivotal decision, granting a penalty to the host nation, Morocco, in the final moments of the game.
Following an extensive VAR review by referee Jean-Jacques Ndala, a penalty was awarded to the host nation, igniting a heated confrontation between both teams. This intense moment culminated in Senegalese players leaving the pitch in a passionate protest against the referee’s ruling.
Senegal Team Captain, Sadio Manè, displayed good sportsmanship by calling back his teammates from the changing room onto the pitch to continue the match.
The Senegalese team had a firm believe that the match was being officiated in favor of the host team, Morocco because in the last minute of the game, Ismaïla Sarr scored a late winning goal which was disallowed by the referee due to a foul in the early build-up,
However, after returning to the pitch, the penalty kick taker for Morocco failed to put the ball into the net as Mendy caught the ball.
After the penalty, Senegal seized their opportunity with Pape Gueye netting the decisive goal in the final.
Despite Morocco’s relentless efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net.
