The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced that Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong’s term as Vice-Chancellor concluded on September 18, 2025, marking his 60th birthday.
The decision was arrived at during the Council’s 124th Regular Meeting after a careful assessment of Prof Boampong’s appointment.
The Council determined that extending Prof. Boampong’s term by two years constituted a breach of the 1992 Constitution. The Council has therefore adjusted the conclusion of Prof. Boampong’s second term to September 18, 2025, which is the exact date he reached the mandatory retirement age.
This marks the conclusion of a protracted legal dispute between the University and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) with regards to the tenure of Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong.
In its concluding remarks, the Council stressed that the updated tenure takes precedence over the previous letter which was issued on July 28, 2023.
