Cillian Murphy was born on May 25,1976. Ireland’s Douglas, County Cork, is where he was born. Brendad Murphy, his father, was employed by the Irish Department of Education. By then, Murphy’s mother was a French teacher. Cillian Murphy began writing songs and playing music at the age of ten.
Cillian attended Catholic secondary school Presentation Brothers College. He excelled in his studies but often entangled in little fights with his colleagues at school. It was this same period he started participating in plays. He was encouraged by his English tutor (novelist William Wall) to reconsider acting as a profession.
He however, focused on music as a career, signing and playing guitar with his brother. The musical journeys of Cillian Murphy and his brother were heavily influenced by Frank Zappa and The Beatles. They named their band The Sons of Mr. Greengenes. They were offered a five-year contract with Acid Jazz Records but they refused to sign the deal. Murphy admitted he was happy they did not sign the deal.
He started his law program in 1996 at University College Cork but failed due to his inability to concentrate on his studies. The band was his major priority. He performed in two plays while attending UCC:, “Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Originally a musician, Murphy’s acting prowess has helped him popular and he’s celebrity. As a result of his roles in well-known films like “Oppenheimer” and others, he has become well-known in the film industry. During his 1996 tryout, Murphy was cast as a key role in “Disco Pigs” by the Corcadorca Theatre Company. A three-week run was planned, but after garnering widespread praise, the play went on tour in Europe, Canada, and Australia for two years.
Following his tremendous success in his acting profession, Murphy abandoned his band and dropped out of school. After the tour was over, Cillian wanted to go back to his music career but, he secured a manager who changed his perspective to switch back to music.
