Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, has been released from EOCO's custody

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, has been released from EOCO’s custody.

This comes after meeting his bail requirements of Ghc50 million with sureties; a bond which could not be met last week.

This was made known by the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua, on Monday, June 2.

He used the opportunity to thank MP for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, who secured one of the bail conditions required by the Economic and Organised Crime Office EOCO.

He further lambasted the government for using state securities to intimidate political  opposition admonishing the NDC government to be fair in its discharge of justice since they will not be power forever.

Wontumi is expected to cooperate with law enforcement agencies with his ongoing legal proceedings following his detention at EOCO.

Wontumi was picked by the Officials from EOCO after a short interaction with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra on May 27. His detention, which has drawn harsh criticism from NPP members, has sparked a national debate. While some are advocating for his release, others are supporting his prosecution.

According to Deputy Attorney General, Srem Sai, Chairman Wontumi’s arrest was linked to criminal offences which include fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering.

The criminal investigation is ongoing alongside asset recovery procedures to stop more of what law enforcement authorities strongly believe to be proceeds of crime from being lost.

Wontumi is also linked to  an international crime scheme which EOCO is currently collaborating with foreign law enforcement partners to make sure offenders are made to face the law.
