The Food And Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning to the public to avoid consuming Jupiter 1990 and Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur after a lab test revealed the presence of marijuana extracts in the beverages.

According to a statement released by the Authority on Sunday, May 18th, the drinks are not registered and unsafe for consumption. Prior investigations have established their parent company to be FAMUDE Catering Services which is an unlicensed company in the Ashanti Region.

The FDA has subsequently shut down the facility and revoked their license. The situation has been taken up by the Suntreso District Police Command.

The FDA indicated it is closely working with the Ghana Police Service’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to manage and limit the circulation of these unapproved beverages.

Despite the Authority’s effort to curb the distribution of the drinks, it obtained intelligence in April that Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur was being sold at Koforidua. This led to the discovery of a new illegal production facility associated with the same network.

The FDA has therefore urged Ghanaians to desist from consuming these drinks and report any new facility being used to market the products.

The Authority reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the public from hazardous drugs and warned individuals and enterprises involved in this illegal activity that legal measures will be enforced.
