The Director of the Bongo National Health Insurance Directorate in the Upper East Region, Mohammed Seidu Akugri, has been gruesomely murdered by assailants.
According to a report by Bolgatanga-based A1 radio, the unfortunate incident happened on May 19, 2025 around 6:00 to 7:00 pm when Mr Akugri was on his way home from Bolgatanga.
The heinous crime was committed at Nangodi near Bolgatanga.
The suspects who perpetrated the crime shot Mr. Akugri while in his car and set him ablaze.
The recent murder of the NHIA boss has been linked to the ongoing impasse in Bawku currently where lives and properties have been destroyed because of chieftaincy issues.
The murder of Mr. Akugri has been strongly condemned by member of parliament for Bawku Central and leader of the majority caucus in parliament, Mahama Ayariga.
The Bawku Central MP has urged the security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the yet to be identified assailants to justice.
He further encouraged parties involved in the ongoing dispute to give peace a chance and fully participate in the resolution process mediated by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
“I urge all to remain calm and let’s focus on the ongoing efforts of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku situation.”
