Foundation Targets Health Facilities with Bed Refurbishment and Repairs Programme
MTN Ghana Foundation has launched a nationwide intervention aimed at addressing hospital bed shortages by refurbishing damaged beds and repairing essential accessories in health facilities across the country. The initiative is expected to improve patient care and support healthcare institutions struggling with inadequate bed capacity and ageing equipment.
Supporting Ghana’s Healthcare System
According to the Foundation, the programme will focus on restoring hospital beds that are no longer in use due to mechanical faults, wear and tear, or damaged accessories.
Health facilities selected for the intervention will receive repairs and maintenance support designed to increase the number of functional beds available to patients.
The initiative forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader commitment to supporting healthcare delivery and improving community well-being.
Addressing a Growing Challenge
Hospital bed shortages remain a challenge in several health facilities, particularly in areas experiencing high patient volumes.
Healthcare professionals have frequently highlighted the pressure placed on hospitals when bed availability falls below demand, sometimes forcing facilities to make difficult decisions regarding patient admissions and accommodation.
By restoring existing equipment, the Foundation hopes to provide a cost-effective solution that can deliver immediate benefits to health facilities.
Partnership with Health Institutions
The programme is expected to be implemented in collaboration with hospitals and health authorities to identify facilities most in need of support.
Officials say the project will not only increase bed availability but also improve the quality of care by ensuring patients have access to safer and more comfortable hospital environments. The Foundation believes the initiative can help strengthen healthcare infrastructure while reducing the financial burden associated with replacing large numbers of hospital beds.
A Boost for Patient Care
The intervention has been welcomed by healthcare stakeholders who view it as a practical response to a longstanding challenge in the health sector.
As hospitals continue to manage increasing patient numbers, initiatives that improve existing resources are expected to play an important role in enhancing service delivery and patient outcomes. The programme also highlights the growing role of corporate organisations in supporting national development efforts beyond their core business activities.
