The Belgian-born Doku, of Ghanaian origin, obtained his passport, solidifying his cultural reconnection. The gesture by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs marks a pivotal moment in the football career of the Manchester City star following the acquisition of his diplomatic passport.

Doku who plays in the English Premier league is on a holiday in Ghana after the 2024-2025 season came to a successful end with his side clinching to the 3rd position with 71 points. He also participated in the recently concluded FIFA Club World Cup, although his club did not advance to the quarter-finals after being defeated by Al Hilal in the round of 16, with a score of 4-3.

According to the Minister, as a dual citizen, Doku has every right to hold a Ghanaian passport underscoring the importance of the occasion for the Belgian international.

Doku was born on May 27, 2002, in Antwerp, Belgium, to Ghanaian parents.

He began his senior career at Anderlecht where his exceptional talents at a young age garnered significant interest from elite clubs. He later moved to Rennes in 2020 where his ball control, touch, and dribbling abilities secured him a position with the English Premier League team, Manchester City, which he joined in 2023.
