Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has debunked rumors fast spreading on social media that the monthly stipend of Zoomlion sweepers under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have been increased to GHC 1,200.
There have been reports circulating on various social media platforms that Zoomlion sweepers under the YEA have witnessed a rise in their monthly salary.
Per reports, workers who used to only receive GHC250 from an allotted GHC750 per individual would now be paid a whooping GHC1,200.
The purported increase has ignited public discourse, with some citizens endorsing it as a positive initiative by the government. Others have also condemned the previous administration for neglecting the wellbeing of Zoomlion sweepers.
Reacting to such reports, Manasseh noted that there have not been any changes in the salary of Zoomlion sweepers; however, Cabinet is yet to decide on the YEA contract with a lot of people calling for its cancellation.
“Salaries of YEA/Zoomlion sweepers have not been increased. Cabinet is yet to decide on the deal. Disregard the false news.”
