In the wake of many assaults on Ghanaian nationals that went viral on social media, many in Ghana are demanding a total boycott of all products and services from South Africa.

Ghanaians are urging the government to refrain from awarding contracts to any South African firm in response to the mistreatment of our citizens, which resulted in the airlifting of approximately 300 individuals from South Africa to Ghana.

Eric Adjei, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovative Program (NEIP), has presented a persuasive argument for the government to rethink the renewal of the mining lease for Gold Fields. He highlighted the critical need to prioritize local companies in the stewardship of our natural resources.

“To Ghanaians coming home because of the xenophobic racism, we love you all. But to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources: please do not renew the mining lease for Gold Fields Tarkwa. We are hearing that it is a South African company. We need local companies to work for us as citizens”, he wrote on X.

In a bold statement, Eric Twum, a member of the communication team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged fellow African nations to reject any economic engagement with South Africa. He emphasized the ongoing issues of violence and humiliation faced by African nationals in South Africa, calling for a united stand against such actions.

He characterized the attacks as profoundly concerning and at odds with the ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing African unity and fostering continental trade collaboration.

He argued that the ongoing attacks weaken the essence of integration and collaboration that initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aim to foster across the continent.
