The Head of Women and Gender of the Health Services Workers Union, Madam Harriet Sobuor, has revealed that the Ghana Health Service has sarted recording cases of men with breast cancer.
She made this revelation during the 2024 breast cancer awareness creation in Cape Coast in commemoration of the October Breast Cancer Awareness Month organized by the Ghana Health Services Workers Union of the the Trades Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana.
Reports also indicate that certain school-aged children have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the ongoing screening campaign activities conducted in various educational institutions.
Madam Sobuor disclosed that about 4,000 cases cancer involving women, children and men have been recorded this year.
She bemoans the high rate at which women living with breast cancer are dying due to late detection. She consequently urged the general public to prioritize breast cancer screening and promptly seek treatment at hospitals.
She urged the Ghanaians to prioritize their health by seeking breast screening at any health service center rather than wait till October.
“The Health Services Workers Union will not do this education only in October but it is an ongoing program. In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have intensified our campaign in relation to breast cancer awareness”,she said.
Hajia Rahinatu Abdul-Salam, a staff member of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and the National Chairperson for the Union, underscored the need for self-breast examination.
