Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has admonished the Supreme Court to apply the same vigor it used to handle the case involving the four vacant seats in parliament to the Anti-LGBTQ Bill which has for sometime now become he topic of discussion.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has admonished the Supreme Court to apply the same vigor it used to handle the case involving the four vacant seats in parliament to also decide the Anti-LGBTQ Bill.

The speaker finds it shocking that the Apex Court prioritizes certain cases over others.

“I humbly call on the Supreme Court to apply the same swiftness to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Value Bill as it has the vacant seats saga,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on November 6, 2024, the Speaker disclosed the Judiciary and the executive are closely working together to weaken parliament.

He also refutes reports that the nation was on the verge of a constitutional crisis.

“There is no constitutional crisis in this country. The parliament of Ghana is alive and working, let nobody mislead, misinform, or disinform you and the country. “He added, “Democracy is about the rule of law, let the law work.”

It would be recalled that the speaker on October 17 declared four seats in parliament as vacant.

However, the Supreme Court intervened and directed the Speaker to allow the four MPs to continue to represent their constituents until a final decision is arrived at.

The speaker declared the four seats vacant because the affected lawmakers have decided to cross carpets to either stand as independent candidates or switch to a particular party to be elected in December 7 elections.
