In a statement dated June 19, 2026, the university said it first became aware of the incident after reports surfaced in the media. The school noted that the arrests are linked to activities that allegedly took place during Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations.
The university’s Registrar said management is currently engaging NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and verify what actually happened.
“At this stage, the University is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter,” the statement said.
The university also urged the public to avoid speculation, stressing that investigations are ongoing and due process must be respected.
Five Students Arrested Over Alleged Cannabis-Infused Products
The five suspects, reportedly students in Levels 100, 300 and 400, were arrested after intelligence reports pointed to suspected drug-related activity within the university community.
Preliminary investigations suggest the students were allegedly involved in producing and selling cannabis-infused items such as ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper and eggs. They are also accused of dealing in raw cannabis.
Authorities reportedly recovered several suspected substances during the operation. The items have since been seized and sent for forensic analysis.
University Suspends SRC Week Activities
As a precautionary measure, Central University has suspended all remaining SRC Week activities. Management said the decision was taken to maintain order and ensure safety on campus while it reviews both the incident and its event management procedures.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has reiterated its commitment to fighting drug-related activities in educational institutions. The Commission also warned students to stay away from the trafficking or use of narcotic substances.
Investigation Ongoing
The five students are expected to assist investigators as authorities work to determine the full scope of the alleged operation and identify any other individuals who may be involved.
Central University has assured students, staff, parents, alumni and the general public that it is fully cooperating with investigators. The university also reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, safety and protecting the integrity of the institution.
The university’s full statement was issued on June 19, 2026.
