Ghana's President, John Dramamni Mahama, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, to expedite investigations into the deaths of Ghanaian citizens during the 2020 and 2024 polls.

Ghana’s President, John Dramamni Mahama, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, to expedite investigations into the deaths of Ghanaian citizens during the 2020 and 2024 polls.

The president, through a letter addressed to the IGP, said the impact of such incidents has left a lasting scar on Ghana’s democratic process.

The letter which was signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, stated that justice must be served to the victims and their families.

The statement outlined some guidelines the office of IGP should adhere to ensure transparency and fairness. The Mahama-led government proposed a Dedicated Investigative Task Force within the CID with the sole purpose of handling such cases.

The letter proposed collaboration with families and eyewitnesses through interviews, which is essential for uncovering vital information.

The Office of the IGP has also been tasked to investigate the actions of security personnel deployed to the affected polling stations to determine their involvement or oversight.

The letter mentioned that advanced Forensic techniques should be employed to assess physical evidence from the crime scene.

The main focus of the president’s order is to restore public trust and commitment to uncover the truth behind the killings.
