Former President Jerry John Rawlings was a pivotal player in the formation of the political tradition that led to the National Democratic Congress, according to President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking during a memorial event for Rawlings, Mahama said that the late president’s legacy will live on in the party and the nation thanks to his dedication to transparency, equality, and public service.
He stated that the former Head of State who has been honored, had a hand in molding the political legacy that the party inherited.
The manl we honor today played a significant role in shaping the political tradition that gave rise to our party,” he stated.
“Jerry John Rawlings was a transformational character whose resolve established the groundwork for the democratic stability and political liberties we now enjoy. Rawlings transcended his presidential duties to accomplish further greater things”, he said.
President John Dramani Mahama said that renaming the National Democratic Congress headquarters as Jerry John Rawlings House in honor of the late statesman is an appropriate homage to his significant achievements to the party and the country at large.
