The Assin Central Parliamentary seat in the Central region which is currently been held by the outspoken lawmaker, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, has been won by the opposition NDC.
The Parliamentary candidate for the NDC, Megyimah Shaibu Nurein, secured 16,343 votes, which represents 50.03% while the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate, Nti Godfred Amewu had 15,926 votes representing 49.35%.
This is the first time in 24 years the National Democratic Congress has been able to secure victory in the Assin Central parliamentary seat.
The Electoral Commission is presently announcing the results from the constituencies subsequent to the counting and collation of votes at several polling stations and collation centers nationwide.
The exercise is being done at the National Collation Center in Accra. According to the Commission, the exercise is aimed at promoting transparency and fairness in this year’s polls.
Meanwhile, both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party are urging their supporters to remain but vigilant in the counting process.
The National communication officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has admonished party supporters to be very vigilant and refrain from celebrating prematurely.
