The Trump led government has issued a warning to foreign football fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America not to overstay their welcome.
The United States alongside Canada and Mexico are expected to host the international football competition. The event is expected to attract millions of football supporters across the globe.
While football lovers are warmly welcomed, U.S. officials have indicated that strict immigration laws will be followed throughout the World Cup season.
Visitors are cautioned to leave the country when the tournament comes to an end. Persons who violate these terms will face future travel bans.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance acknowledged the importance of the tournament but stressed that strict compliance to the immigration laws must be followed to avoid sanctions.
Of course, everybody is welcome to come and see this incredible event. I know we will have visitors from close to 100 countries. We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the games. But when the time is up, they will have to go home, otherwise, they’ll have to talk to the secretary.”
Sean Duffy, Security of Transportation added that visitors should enjoy the country responsibly.
“We’re going to encourage everyone to go on a road trip to celebrate our great country. So, if you’re coming to see some soccer, go on a road trip and see America. Don’t overstay your visa. Don’t stay too long. But when you come, actually see this great country that we’re going to celebrate over the next year. Our team is going to work full-heartedly together to make sure that this event goes on without a hitch,” he said.
