Following a multi-year rate review process spanning 2026–2030, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced new water and energy pricing increases, beginning January 1, 2026.
During the five-year control period, rates for electricity will increase by 9.86% for all customer groups, while rates for water will climb by 15.92%.
In order to satisfy the investment needs of utility providers, maintain industry competitiveness, and protect consumer interests, the Commission deemed the amendments essential.
The assessment takes into consideration variables that are outside the control of service providers, including changes in currency rates, inflation, fuel prices, and generation mix. To account for these issues, quarterly adjustments are also included.
The Volta River Authority has also included the cost of mini-grid fees in its income needs in order to help isolateed populations get access to energy.
The decision was reached after thorough review of utility proposals, public hearings, and meetings with stakeholders, as emphasized by PURC.
