President John Dramani Mahama has announced that more than $70 million has been allocated for contractors to accelerate work on the long-stalled Ofankor-Nsawam Road. This has led to notable advancements.
The President on Wednesday December 3 visited the Ofankor-Nsawam stretch as part of a working visit.
He stated during the visit that the project was delayed a bit due to months of non-payments and also some other impediments.
“One issue was the inability to facilitate certain demolitions necessary for the contractor’s progress, but the more significant concern was the prolonged non-payment for completed work.” Consequently, I instructed the Roads and Finance Ministers to ensure that the payment to the contractor was executed. He asserted that over $70 million was disbursed.
The President conveyed his satisfaction regarding the swift progress since the allocation of funds, remarking that what was previously characterized as a “road moving at a snail’s pace” is now progressing with notable consistency.
He implored the contractor to sustain the current pace, suggesting that the project might reach completion sooner than anticipated.
“During my previous visit, he expressed confidence that by July of the following year, the road would be completed and ready for handover. However, upon assessing the current state of the road, I am convinced that with diligent effort, it is feasible to complete and hand it over by April of next year, allowing us to utilize it,” he stated.
