President of the United States of America Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk to head the Depart of Government Efficiency (D.OG.E).
Musk will work with former presidential candidate of the Republicans, Vivek Ramaswamy. The two will work outside government machinery to give advice to the White House and become the channel to drive entrepreneur initiatives.
Trump in a statement noted the new department would help his administration to eliminate the bureaucracy of the government and also cut unnecessary expenditures.
Taking to his X the social media platform he owns to explain his transparency initiatives, Musk revealed he will chronicle all his departmental acts online. Ramaswamy also responded to his appointment indicating they are going to work tirelessly to help the Donald-Trump-led administration achieve its target.
There is no clear direction of how the organization is going to work but it could come under the Federal Advisory Committee Act. It is an act that specifies the role of external agencies that counsel the government on how it should function.
As a public servant, you must declare your assets to avoid conflict of interest in the future but since Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are not formal federal workers, they would not face such requirements.
Musk has been advocating for the establishment of a department of government efficiency. The acronym of the agency mimics a cryptocurrency coin Musk has been promoting for a while now which is Dogecoin.
Trump has said the agency will run a comprehensive audit of all agencies within the scope of government and provide suggestions.
The value of Dogecoin has doubled since election day. Following election day, there has been an increase in cryptocurrency markets due to anticipations of a more lenient regulatory environment under a Trump government.
According to Trump, the mandate of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would come to an end on July 4,2026.
