The Accra High Court has granted bail to Frederick Kumi, alias Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, popularly known as Abu Trica, a 31-year-old resident of Swedru, Ghana, in the sum of Ghs30 million. Abu Trica was arrested last year in December and has since been in custody after he was allegedly indicted for engaging in romance scams with a formal request by the FBI’s Cleveland Division for his extradition to the United States to stand trial. He has been accused of using AI-generated identities to form fake online relationships, gain victims’ trust, and solicit money for fabricated emergencies, travel, or investments. The stake commenced proceedings at the District Court, where he was subsequently remanded. The legal representatives subsequently submitted a request for bail to the High Court.
